The three most important questions you must answer as a salesperson are:
Where must you go to get business?
How will you maintain it?
How do you increase it?
That is it in a nutshell. Sounds simplistic but in essence that is it. You must find the answer to these questions or success will allude you. You must know how to increase your business without the luxury of a price increase or the introduction of a new line of products by your company.
You can attempt to accomplish these things by:
Finding new customers through canvassing, talking to other salespeople, looking through the yellow pages, anything you can think of. Nothing should be over looked. You must be creative and operate outside the box.
Calling on existing customers can help increase your business, because just by being in front of your customers you are noticed because you are there. Simple but effective non the less. Making additional calls is another way to help answer these questions. If you are averaging a sale every four calls, an extra eight calls should increase your sales exponentially.
Selling more items per call and selling those items which are more expensive can also help. Present all those products that you think may be of interest to the customer and be aware of them and push them.
You can always maintain and increase business by serving the hell out of your customers, going the extra yard. NO MAKE THAT THE EXTRA MILE. Always let your customers know when you handled a problem for them, did someone a favor or just that you were available when you were needed.
Customers take note of more than you think. Being in front of them, helping them, just being in their office doing something constructive can help you get business, maintain business, and increase business.
