Nothing gives off good vibes like the appearance of success in sales. Conversely even if a sales call did not turn out to be as successful as you expected, the experienced salesperson should never let it be known to his customer. Portraying a dejected or downtrodden image sends a devastating signal of defeat. No matter what the circumstances, never, but never , portray a defeated posture.
The phone may ring and just like that you may be on top of the world again. Letting anyone ( your customers or colleagues) see you wear a look of dejection is disastrous. That one snapshot of a moment lingers on with all who noticed it. As hard as it may be always portray a positive attitude.
Like everything else in life there are extremes. Nothing is ever as good as it seems when things are going right, and nothing is as entirely bad as it appears when things are going bad. Remember good things are rarely reported in the news. Bad things are reported all the time. One dejected facial expression by a salesperson noticed by a customer erases innumerable good ones and leaves a bad impression in the mind of the customer. No one is at the top of their game all the time but try to make people buy into that scenario.
Whenever someone asked me how I was doing or how my day was going: I would smile, and say “I never had a bad day”. I did so in such a manner as not to give the impression of being flippant or sarcastic, but of being positive and taking it as it came. This always elicited a smile.
Never give off an aura of dejection or defeat. Customers will notice this and it will inevitably make future dealings difficult. This chink in your armor will be difficult to overcome and customers' may try to play on this to your chagrin.
Always try to appear to be on an even keel. It's a good way to sell and a goodway to go through life.
